Music at Christ Church

Krisy Marx plays flute and alto flute. She performs with the Charleston Community Band, College of Charleston's Flute Choir and Wind Ensemble, and her trio MP3 Flutes. As a result of her family's many military relocations throughout the states, Krisy has had the privilege to perform and record with various ensembles including the Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches, Fairfax Wind Symphony, and the Main Street Community Band of Fairfax. She notes her most memorable performances were with the Honor Flight Band, welcoming WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam veterans to Washington D.C. to tour military and war memorials.

The Choir at Christ Church has been an inspiration to congregants for many years. Because the 11am service is a musically blended service, the choir sings quite a variety of musical anthems, including classical, gospel, 20th century and lyrical compositions. Besides leading Sunday worship with their musical gifts, they are active in other ministries at Christ Church and in their community. They have recorded two CDs and have performed for Piccolo Spoleto as well as at the Biltmore Estate during the December candlelight tours. They also perform in the community several times a year as well as perform classical and sacred concerts during the holiday seasons at Christ Church, Mount Pleasant.

Dr. Lorna Barker, Christ Church Director of Music, is a performer, accompanist, adjudicator and teacher in the Charleston area.  She has a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of South Carolina in piano performance. Originally from Northern Ohio, Dr. Barker has been an active performer in the Charleston area since her move to Mt. Pleasant in 1987. She has been the Music Director for Christ Church, Mount Pleasant for the past twenty-seven years.

The Christ Church Choir consists entirely of volunteers. They rehearse every Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 in the Sanctuary. If you would like to join the choir or would like more information, please talk to Lorna after church or email her at:
